How Johanna Sanders ’13 Established a Career in Social Justice

Johanna Sanders grew up deeply political and steeped in her family’s immigrant experience. After graduating from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, she continued on to receive a Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law in 2019. She has a background in LGBTQ advocacy, criminal justice reform, and anti-poverty work, and has used her passion for social justice to establish a career in which she can help advance equality and justice.

Johanna is the Director of Policy and Organizing at The Vaid Group, a social innovation and consulting firm focused on projects that advance equity, justice, and inclusion. The Vaid Group advises nonprofits, foundations, individual social innovators and businesses on strategy, program design, fundraising, management, and organizational development. They also lead networks, build coalitions, and  incubate original projects to promote equity and justice. As Director of Policy and Organizing, Johanna devises and executes strategies that advance issue advocacy and supports diverse organizations, networks, coalitions, foundations, and individual philanthropists to develop their organizations and goals, and achieve their objectives.
