5 Ways to Gain Healthcare Experience Locally

Exploring your options and gaining experience in healthcare settings has been increasingly challenging over the past 18 months. Here are 5 ways you can gain experience in a healthcare setting this fall!

  1. Many local doctors are offering shadowing opportunities in their offices for up to 25 hours throughout the semester. Consider reaching out to specific doctors and healthcare professionals to inqure about shadowing opportunities.
  2. Consider part time employment! UHS and other local healthcare organizations are hiring for a variety of positions – some of which are patient facing. Stay up to day on the Careers pages at UHS, Lourdes, and other local organizations!
  3. Look into opportunities with Broome County Health Department such as volunteering at local testing sites.
  4. Seek out other volunteer opportunities using the Center for Civic Engagement Volunteer Database   you can also get involved on campus and meet other student with similar interests through the various healthcare related clubs and organizations! Search B-Engaged!
  5. Sign up for mentoring opportunities! Upstate Medical University offers the Binghamton-Upstate Mentoring Partnership Program connecting pre-med students with a mentor at Upstate Medical.  Interested students should complete this google form by 10/08!
