Summer Intern Spotlight: Alana Nappi, Talent Intern at Stewart Talent Agency

Meet Alana Nappi, a rising junior studying Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Management Information Systems in the School of Management! Alana interned at Stewart Talent Agency this summer, learning new skills and immersing herself in the entertainment industry. Here’s what Alana shared about her internship experience.

  1. What is your major/program and year at Binghamton and what clubs/activities are you involved in?

I am a Junior majoring in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Management Information Systems. On Campus, I am heavily involved in Binghamton’s Women in Business organization and Note to Self A Cappella.

  1. Where are you interning this summer and what is your position title?

I am a talent intern at Stewart Talent Agency in their New York City office this summer.

  1. What are some of your responsibilities as an intern?

As an intern at Stewart Talent Agency, I’ve primarily been working on uploading casting breakdowns and inputting submissions. In addition, the agent assistants will assign us tasks such as inputting appointments with the applicable materials (sides/script), editing self-tape auditions, updating calendars with client availability, and tracking casting notifications on trade websites like Deadline.

  1. What has been the most challenging part of your internship, and what has been the most exciting?

My biggest challenge at my internship has been reading new scripts and writing synopsis and reviews. I tend to read slowly, so this task is time-consuming for me. My fellow interns are more interested in script reading. So, after reading my last script, I learned it would be best to delegate script reading to some of the other interns which would allow me more time to perform tasks I am more efficient in.

The most exciting part of my internship has been getting an inside scoop on industry secrets, such as learning about new shows and films before they become public knowledge. I also greatly enjoy learning from and talking with my co-workers. Everyone is incredibly kind, friendly, and open to conversation, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.

  1. What skills are you learning at your internship?

I’m learning several valuable skills at my internship, including effective time management, attention to detail, proactive learning, and teamwork. Additionally, I’m gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard software such as inEntertainment, Breakdown Express, and IMDb Pro.

  1. What is the most important lesson you have learned at your internship?

The most important lesson I have learned at my internship is that networking and maintaining relationships are incredibly important. Building connections with colleagues, clients, and industry professionals not only opens doors to new opportunities but also provides valuable support and insights that can help advance your career.

  1. How have your experiences and coursework at Binghamton University prepared you for your internship?

Binghamton University has done an exceptional job in preparing me for networking and professional development. My courses in the School of Management, along with the professional internship course I took through the Fleishman Center this summer, have equipped me with the skills and knowledge to maximize my internship experience. I’ve been taught how to optimize my learning, build meaningful connections, and effectively navigate the professional landscape.

  1. How is this experience shaping your career goals?

This experience is shaping my career goals by helping me identify and prioritize what I value most in the workplace, such as teamwork, compensation, innovation, and passion. Understanding these values is crucial in guiding my future career choices and ensuring that I pursue roles and organizations that align with what matters most to me.

  1. What is your best piece of internship-related advice to give to other students?

Ask questions and be curious. You’re at your internship to learn, and your co-workers and mentors are there to support you. The more you ask and inquire, the more valuable skills and knowledge you’ll gain. Embrace every opportunity to learn, and don’t be afraid to seek clarification or deeper understanding. This proactive approach will maximize the benefits of your internship and help you grow both personally and professionally.
