Why Should Every STEM Student Apply for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)?

Are you a STEM student that’s ready to take your graduate research to the next level? The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) offers one of the most competitive fellowships for students pursuing research-based graduate degrees. Here’s why it’s worth applying:

What is the NSF GRFP?

The NSF GRFP aims to support outstanding students in STEM fields to help build a diverse U.S. scientific community. The fellowship is open to senior undergraduates, recent bachelor’s degree holders, and early graduate students who are applying to PhD programs with research-based goals in eligible STEM fields.

Why Apply?

  1. Financial Freedom
The fellowship offers three years of support, with an annual $37,000 stipend and $16,000 educational allowance. This substantial support lets you focus entirely on research without financial stress.
  2. Enhanced Opportunities and Networking
NSF fellows are recognized for their potential in STEM, opening doors to professional networks, research collaborations, and future career advancements.
  3. Support for Diversity
The NSF encourages applications from underrepresented communities, ensuring fellows are part of an inclusive and diverse talent pool in STEM fields.

Who Can Apply?

  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident
  • Intend to enroll or be enrolled full-time in a research-based master’s or doctoral program in an eligible field of study in STEM or STEM education
