Exploring through skill development: Join us for a Skills Lab

If you are a student looking to explore your career options, you might not know where to start. Options are good right? Yes…but, it can feel overwhelming at times!

One of the ways that can help you explore your career interests is to start testing them out. Certainly, one of the ways to test out your interests is through an internship, job shadowing or to do an informational interview. If you are looking for something that is shorter term, and allows you to practice a relevant skill for that industry then participating in a skills lab would be a good fit for you.

A skills lab provides students with a collaborative space to learn industry relevant skills, while also enhancing their network. They typically run 75-90 minutes and are focused on giving students space to practice a skill that would be important for an internship or entry level role within a specific industry. This is helpful for students who are still exploring because you can better understand the relevant skills, test them out and then decide if those skills are in alignment with your interests, skills and values.

The skills labs are also a great resume booster! When students attend a skills lab they are provided with materials to demonstrate how they can showcase their participation on their resume and LinkedIn profiles.

We have an exciting lineup of labs this spring semester to expand students accessibility to industry relevant skills. Students interested in learning more about the skills lab can visit our website and can search ‘skills lab’ in hireBING by Handshake for the full schedule.
