🎭 More Than Just the Stage

The theater minor at Binghamton University has more to offer than you think. With comprehensive courses aside from acting that incorporate production and performance to curate bold and passionate students.

To complete the minor, students take:

  • Four non-practicum courses (16 credits) such as World Dramatic Literature or Performance and Modern Culture
  • Eight credits of practica in either performance or technical theatre, like set design, lighting, or stage management

With this easily added minor, the possibilities are endless! Through this minor, you can significantly develop your public speaking skills. Not only that, but with theater training, you can improve your adaptability and flexibility, which can be applied to many professional workplaces.

🤝 Real-World Connections: CONNECT on Broadway

One incredible opportunity the theater department offers is its CONNECT on Broadway program!

Each January, selected senior theater majors and minors travel to NYC to complete several workshops to get hands-on experience in the industry.

Workshops include:

  • Working with professionals in the industry (includes several Binghamton alumni)
  • Getting backstage tours to see what goes on behind the scenes of Broadway and off-Broadway productions
  • Network events with several professionals to gain an industry edge

This experience is at no cost to students because of all of the immense alumni and Harpur College support for this program. Make sure to check out this incredible opportunity to get real-world experience in different aspects of musical theater training, scriptwriting, technical production, and so much more!

🌆Final Act: The Art of Collaboration and Communication

There is much more to take away from a theater minor than just learning how to perform on a stage. The transferable skills can be highlighted in resumes or job applications to give you an edge in any field you choose to enter.

In terms of collaboration, theater gives you experience with:

  • Following directions and understanding end goals for projects or tasks
  • How to meet deadlines and be prepared to move forward with different assignments
  • How to work collaboratively with other team members through effective communication
  • Aiding in creating a supportive and cohesive environment where everyone is passionate about working towards an end goal

By mastering collaboration, you will be more prepared in the professional world. With this minor, you can highlight the intricate experiences you have with collaboration and teamwork and how they can be beneficial to any aspect of the job market!
