As someone who is looking into graduate programs right now, particularly Physician Assistant (PA) schools, it’s arguably one of the hardest tasks to figure out what the right program is for you. This decision can be overwhelming, but figuring out the key factors that can influence this choice can help guide you and make this process easier.
For me,this includes location, cost, clinical exposure, and program reputation. Location is something I consider because I value being in a city where there are more opportunities for internships or post-grad employment, as well as being close to my family. Clinical exposure is another factor I consider. Schools that have established connections to hospitals or clinics will allow me to gain hands-on experience in a multitude of specialties which will prepare me to be a more well-rounded student. Reputation is also a critical factor. Programs that are accredited and have high PANCE rates can show how much a program values the success of its students and how effectively the program prepares students for their careers.
For those considering graduate school, one of the biggest tips I would recommend is to sit and figure out what matters the most for you. Figuring out what your career goals may be and envisioning where you see your life taking place five or ten years from now. You may not know what this could look like but this process is very personalized so taking this time to research what you want in a program can help ensure that you are getting the most from your graduate school experience.
