Sophia Givre ’11, MA ’13, PhD ’17

Sophia meets one-on-one with students and helps manage the Fleishman Center’s academic internship program (CDCI). She cultivates new internship sites for students, supports the internship seminar registration process, and oversees the Student Affairs Internship Fund and the Johnson City Middle School Mentor Program. Sophia was a first-generation college student and Clark Fellowship recipient that received a Ph.D. in sociology. Due to her personal experiences and background in Opportunity Programs, she is passionate about helping students from historically underserved populations unlock their true potential and find successful career paths.

What is your favorite thing about working at Binghamton University?
I enjoy helping students navigate unique challenges and work toward their goals!

What was your first internship or job?
My first job was a cashier at a grocery store.

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about social justice and educational equity. I also like hiking, yoga, and nature.

What is your best piece of career or professional advice?
Be resilient when facing challenges. The obstacles you face are opportunities for you to learn and grow and are unique experiences that shape your strengths.
