Easterseals Wisconsin is looking for 6 energetic individuals to serve as part of our team to provide recreation and care for children, youth and adults who attend respite weekends. The responsibilities include: provide ideas for, plan and lead camp programs; assist camper to participate fully in activities, such as arts, sports and games; accept responsibility for the overall health and safety of the campers; and assist, instruct and supervise campers in personal care skills. Members receive training on how to provide recreation and care for people with disabilities, conflict resolution and civic participation.
Spring Respite Weekend 2020 Dates:
January 16-18 (training + MLK Day); January 29-31; February 5-7; February 12-14; February 19-21; February 26-28; March 5-7; March 19-21; March 26-28; April 9-11; April 16-18; April 23-24; April 30-May 2.
AmeriCorps members receive room and board during the weekends at camp and a living allowance of $1,860 divided bi-weekly throughout the 300 hour term. Members serve approximately one weekend (from 4:00 pm Friday to 5:00 pm Sunday) about every two weeks. In addition, upon successful completion of all training and service requirements, AmeriCorps members will receive an education award of $1,311.11 that can be used to pay for college to repay student loans.
An eagerness to work with people with disabilities, including and ability to work as a team member, with minimal supervision and perform all position responsibilities and duties. Essential functions include the ability to :(1) lift 30 lbs. to waist level (2) physically assist adult campers, (3) identify and respond to environmental or other hazards, (4) observe and assess for campers’ behavioral and physical well-being, (5) use expressive and receptive communication skills and (6) enforce safety, emergency and behavior management techniques.
