The Division of Human Rights is looking for interns for its Binghamton, NY office (located at the state office building in 44 Hawley Street, Binghamton, NY). The Binghamton office is part of the Albany/Binghamton region.Under the supervision of Division of Human Rights (DHR) Investigators at the Albany/Binghamton regional office, interns will experience how DHR investigates complaints. This experience will encompass exposure to assisting in intake, case analysis, documents requests and reviews, witness interviews and drafting investigation reports. Interns will have the added opportunity to observe conference and there may be an opportunity to observe full hearing(s).The successful candidate(s) will assist the Division of Human Rights Specialist in the investigation of complaints alleging violations of the NYS Human Rights Law in the areas of employment and public accommodations. The intern will assist with research, intake, interviewing, and drafting of investigation reports. The intern will be directly involved in helping to resolve complaints before the Division. Candidates can expect to leave the internship with a through knowledge of the Human Rights Law and several substantive writing samples.
