What is NOBCChE?

NOBCChE (National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers) is a professional society dedicated to building diverse leaders in science, engineering, and technology. The platform connects student innovators with an inclusive community, research symposia, targeted scholarships, and a network of industry mentors.

Who should use it and how?

This resource is designed for undergraduate and graduate students in chemistry, chemical engineering, and related STEM fields—particularly Black students and allies—who want to advance their academic and professional profiles.

How to use it:

  • Join as a Student: Navigate to the “Membership” portal to unlock student-tier benefits and connect with your local regional chapter.

  • Apply for Scholarships: Check the “Career Growth” drop-down menu to find exclusive research and academic funding opportunities.

  • Search the Career Center: Browse their specialized job board for internships, co-ops, and full-time technical roles from diversity-focused employers.

  • Present Your Research: Visit the “News & Events” tab to register for regional symposia or the annual national conference to network with recruiters.

Why is it helpful?

Breaking into highly specialized scientific industries can be challenging without a strong community that champions diversity. NOBCChE is helpful because it bypasses general application pools, putting your resume and research directly in front of companies and universities actively seeking top minority STEM talent. It provides the mentoring, funding, and public presentation platforms necessary to transform your academic studies into a high-level technical career.
