Medicine In Sports

Student Organizations

Sports Medicine is a broad field, and our club embraces a wide range of topics that go beyond the traditional scope. As the name suggests, the Medicine in Sports Club focuses on the intersection of medicine, health, and wellness in the realm of athletics. Specifically, we explore areas such as athletic injuries and recovery, sports psychology, nutrition, the impact of supplements on the body, weightlifting, and how genetics influence athletic potential and performance.

At its core, the Medicine in Sports Club seeks to understand the dynamic relationship between athletics and the body. In one sentence, our mission is: “The Medicine in Sports Club aims to explore the effect of physical activity on the body, and how the body, in turn, influences athletic performance.”

This club is open to anyone with an interest in sports, medicine, psychology, nutrition, health and wellness, or any pre-health field that intersects with sports.

The Medicine in Sports Club has several key goals. First and foremost, we aim to be a hub for those interested in sports medicine. Currently, there isn’t a dedicated program or group at Binghamton focused on this field, despite the growing interest and innovation in sports medicine. The fact that other universities have entire majors and programs devoted to the topic highlights the potential here. Our club was created to be the starting point for something similar at Binghamton.

A key objective is to assist students in finding research, volunteering, internship, and shadowing opportunities. We are partnered with the Binghamton Athletic Department to connect students who are interested in sports medicine with valuable hands-on experiences. Through this partnership, we aim to provide students with access to internship and shadowing opportunities with athletic trainers and other professionals in the field.
