oSTEM (Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is a professional society dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals in STEM fields through community building, professional development, mentorship, networking, and advocacy. The organization serves students and professionals across science, technology, engineering, mathematics, healthcare, and research disciplines through collegiate chapters, professional chapters, conferences, leadership opportunities, and career development programming. oSTEM’s mission is to help LGBTQ+ individuals succeed personally, academically, and professionally while fostering more inclusive STEM environments.

Who should use this resource:
Students and professionals who identify as LGBTQ+ and are pursuing careers in STEM, healthcare, research, engineering, technology, mathematics, or related fields. This resource is especially valuable for students seeking community, mentorship, professional development, networking opportunities, and support navigating STEM fields as LGBTQ+ individuals.

Why it’s helpful:
oSTEM offers a variety of resources specifically designed for students and emerging professionals, including collegiate chapters, mentorship opportunities, scholarships, graduate school application support, leadership experiences, networking events, and an annual conference featuring workshops, research presentations, and a Career & Graduate School Expo. Members can connect with peers, professionals, employers, and graduate programs while developing both technical and professional skills. Early involvement can help students build a supportive professional network, explore career and graduate school pathways, gain access to career resources, and find a sense of belonging within STEM communities.
