Past CDCI Internships: Industries – Arts & Communications

Internships are a key part of exploring and advancing your career in the creative arts, media, and marketing fields. They don’t just help you gain relevant, hands-on experience, they’re also one of the best ways to build your professional network, test out potential career paths, and gain clarity on the roles or specialties that most excite you. In some cases, an internship can even spark a shift in direction that better fits your strengths and passions.

This resource brings together multiple tools to help you find, fund, and succeed in internships that align with your goals. It includes:

  • A searchable archive of internships completed for credit through the CDCI program, highlighting real positions Binghamton students have held across the creative industries
  • Additional internship search tools and resources to enhance your process
  • Access to our internship funding resources, designed to support students pursuing unpaid or underpaid experiences

Whether you’re just starting to explore what’s out there or actively applying to roles, this tool is built to meet you where you are. You can use it to:

  • Explore internship titles and see how they connect to different career directions within this cluster
  • Identify companies and organizations, locally, nationally, and remotely, where Binghamton students have interned
  • Guide your own search using platforms like Handshake, LinkedIn, or industry-specific job boards
  • Look up organizations and follow them on LinkedIn or subscribe to newsletters for timely updates and application insights
  • Learn how past students found their internships, through platforms, networking, faculty, or direct outreach, and use those insights to shape your own approach

And remember: you don’t have to navigate this process alone. Our office is here to help you reflect on your goals, sharpen your materials, explore credit and funding options, and make the most of your internship experience.

Template.net’s
Internship Opportunity Inquiry Letter
Don’t just wait for internship postings—take a proactive approach in your search! One way to do this is by sending a letter of inquiry to an employer you’re especially interested in. This lets you explore potential opportunities, or even see if the employer might be open to creating an internship for you. Template.net’s Internship Opportunity Inquiry Letter is a great starting point: it gives a clear example and allows you to customize the letter so it reflects your own skills and experiences. Just remember to keep your letter respectful, tailored to the organization, and specific about why you’re reaching out—this is your chance to show initiative and stand out in your internship search.

Internships provide students with valuable hands-on job experience that can open doors for a future career. However, for students with financial need, accepting internship offers is not always feasible as many are unpaid or do not pay enough to cover cost of living. The Fleishman Career Center recognizes this issue and is committed to removing barriers to internship participation by providing internship funding.

The Fleishman Career Center manages 6 internship funds. Review each fund to determine which would be the best fit for you.

See all details and additional funding sources on this webpage.

As you explore this resource, we encourage you to take advantage of everything available to support your career journey. Below, you’ll find the sources and contributors that made this guide possible, multiple ways to connect with our office for personalized career support, and some important reminders to keep in mind as you plan your strategy. Be sure to check them out, and remember, our team is always here to help you move forward with confidence and clarity.

ReminderWhat This Means for You
Use Multiple SourcesInformation about careers and education can vary depending on where you look. Try checking several websites and resources when researching anything related to your career development (for example: job outlooks, salaries, industry trends, graduate programs, or fellowships, etc.). This will help you get a fuller, more accurate picture of what employers or admissions committees are looking for.
Make Sure to NetworkTalking directly with people associated with your career goals or the programs/companies you’re interested in can give you the clearest and most useful insights. Reach out to professionals, recruiters, alumni, or current students to learn what really matters in your field (for example: company expectations, hiring timelines, résumé preferences, graduate program requirements, etc.). Even within the same industry or graduate program type, different organizations and admissions committees may value things differently. Listening carefully to their guidance can help you put your best foot forward.
Use AI Ethically in Career DevelopmentAI tools can be a great resource for brainstorming, polishing materials, or practicing interview questions (for example: outlining position description details to guide your documents, generating practice questions, etc.). But it works best when you use it thoughtfully and make sure the final work reflects your own skills and voice. Some employers and graduate programs may not allow AI, so always check instructions carefully. Think of AI as a helper, not a replacement—and remember, Career Consultants are happy to guide you on how to use it effectively!
