Commonly Asked Government, Policy, & Law Interview Questions

This resource provides a collection of interview questions commonly asked by employers in government, policy, law, public service, advocacy, and related fields. It is designed to help students understand the types of questions they may encounter during interviews and prepare thoughtful, relevant responses that highlight their experiences, skills, and interest in the field.

Who should use this resource:
Students preparing for internships, fellowships, volunteer positions, or full-time opportunities within the Government, Policy, & Law career cluster. This resource is useful for individuals at any stage of the interview process, from initial preparation to final-round interviews.

Why it’s helpful:
Interview expectations can vary across industries, and government, policy, and law employers often seek evidence of communication skills, critical thinking, ethical decision-making, public service motivation, and issue awareness. This resource helps students practice responding to industry-specific questions, identify areas for improvement, and build confidence before interviews. Students are encouraged to pair this resource with Big Interview and a mock interview appointment through the Fleishman Career Center for additional preparation and feedback.
