The Movement Advancement Project (MAP) Equality MAP Tool
The Movement Advancement Project (MAP) LGBTQ Policy Map tracks and visualizes more than 50 state-level laws and policies that impact LGBTQ individuals across the United States. It provides an overall policy score for each state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories based on how these laws and policies shape LGBTQ rights and lived experiences.
Who should use this resource:
Students who want to better understand the legal and policy landscape affecting LGBTQ individuals across different states, particularly those exploring relocation for school, internships, or employment.
Why it’s helpful:
This resource offers a clear, data-driven snapshot of how inclusive or restrictive state policies are across key areas such as nondiscrimination, healthcare, youth protections, identity documents, criminal justice, and family recognition. It can help students make more informed decisions about where they may want to live, study, or work based on LGBTQ policy environments.
