The Regional Engagement/Workforce Development Internship Fund prioritizes nontraditional students (including those age 24 or older, married or with children, transfer students, working adults, first-generation college students, or those without a standard high school diploma) who are from the Southern Tier, or intent to remain in the Southern Tier after graduation. This fund helps reduce financial barriers to internships while strengthening connections to the local workforce.

Who is eligible?

Currently matriculated Binghamton University undergraduate and graduate students who meet all of the following criteria:

    • Minimum GPA of 3.0
    • Demonstrated financial need and current Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file at the office of Financial Aid and Student Records and/or a completed NYS State Aid Application
    • Have an SSN (Social Security Number) or ITIN (Individual Tax Identification Number)
    • Received an offer for a paid or unpaid internship (note: can be full- or part-time and remote or in-person)
    • Fit the criteria of a non-traditional student (including those age 24 or older, married or with children, transfer students, working adults, first-generation college students, or those without a standard high school diploma)
    • From the Southern Tier, or intent to remain in the Southern Tier after graduation

Preference will be given to students who may not otherwise be able to complete an unpaid internship due to financial constraints, who have not previously received support through the Internship Fund, and those with financial need. Please note that this is a competitive application process and not all applicants will receive funding.

How the internship fund works

  1. Once you are awarded a scholarship, you will receive a letter outlining your next steps
  2. We contact your supervisor the week you start your internship and they verify that you started.
  3. We then start to process your check and you should receive it in a couple weeks.
  4. Toward the end of your internship, we ask you to send us a thank you note for fund sponsors and a picture of you at your internship.

Students may apply for multiple internship funding opportunities. View additional funding opportunities here.
