Summer Career Programs for Incoming Students

Summer 2023 Programs:

2-Credit Online Career Exploration Course (CDCI 200)

Unsure about your future career? The Fleishman Career Center’s Online Summer Career Exploration Course (CDCI 200) breaks career exploration into manageable steps to make this decision easier. Students enrolled in the course will create a meaningful plan to prepare for their future career and learn how to get the most out of their college experience! This class is offered for incoming students during Summer Session Term II (July 3 – August 18).

Kickstart Your Career: Pre-Arrival Program

Do you want to get a head start on your career development? The KICKSTART Your Career program is designed to support first year students in their career exploration process. 

Through collaborative workshops led by career consultants and peer mentors, you’ll be ready to apply to explore career paths, identify ways to gain experience, find leadership opportunities, part-time jobs before the semester even starts. A few sample sessions include, Building Community and Connections, Identifying Your Strengths, Career Exploration and Action Planning and more!

 Participating students will:

  • Develop a career exploration action plan to help identify academic and career interests
  • Build your network of peers and staff to support your exploration
  • Connect to on-campus career resources including career consultants and services that will assist you with your career development goals throughout your time at Binghamton
  • Learn how to use hireBING, Binghamton’s robust online job and internship search network 

Students will be paired with a peer mentors that works in the Fleishman Career Center. This mentor will be a great resource for students throughout your time at Binghamton. 

The KICKSTART Your Career  program will be August 20 from 12:30–4:30 p.m.,  and is completely free! 

Registration is currently open and spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. To secure your place, register today! 

The program is open until it reaches capacity. Students will no longer be able to register at that time. 

These career programs are open to incoming students of any major, and are coordinated by the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development, Binghamton University’s internationally recognized career center. Please contact careers@binghamton.edu with any questions.

Explore Your Interests and Make Career Connections – Free Online Workshop (2021)

Begin your career and professional development experience through a FREE online workshop led by career consultants. You will have the opportunity to explore your academic interests and strengths while developing a career exploration action plan!
This workshop will help you:

  • LEARN what career exploration is and how it can help you make connections between your interests, goals and future career opportunities.  
  • IDENTIFY your academic interests, skills and strengths related to your career interests. 
  • CREATE S.M.A.R.T. goals related to your career exploration and develop a strategy to get connected with experiences to help you gain relevant skill sets and knowledge.
  • CONNECT with Fleishman Center career consultants and resources that can help you grow professionally throughout your time at Binghamton.

Launch Your Career Experience (Aug. 3-6, 2020)

This free 3-day online program hosted by the Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development will help incoming students grow as a professional in a short amount of time. Through real-time, online workshops led by career consultants, you’ll be ready to apply to internships, part-time jobs and other competitive opportunities before the semester even starts! Participating students will:

  • Develop a comprehensive resume that can be used to apply to on-campus jobs,  leadership and research opportunities, externships or internships
  • Build your network both on-  and off-campus with local employers, alumni, faculty, and staff
  • Connect to on-campus career resources including career consultants and services that will assist you with your career development goals throughout your time at Binghamton
  • Learn how to use hireBING, Binghamton’s robust online job and internship search network
  • Set up a great LinkedIn profile that will help get you noticed by recruiters
  • Connect with other students in the program

Tentative Schedule:
Day 1: Meet your mentors, Networking/LinkedIn Workshop, Lunch (optional mentoring group session), Resume Workshop, Virtual Social Activity (optional)
Day 2: Virtual Employer Trek, Lunch (optional mentoring group session), Career Exploration and Skill-Building Session, Virtual Social Activity (optional)
Day 3: Virtual Employer Trek, Lunch (Optional mentoring group session), Meet the Faculty Session, Virtual Social Activity (optional)
Day 4: Schedule your individual career consulting appointments
