Entertainment Correspondent and Producer, KABC-TV

>> Tony Cabrera: My name's Tony Cabrera. I'm an entertainment correspondent and producer for "On The Red Carpet" produced from KABC-TV. So "On the Red Carpet" is a weekly entertainment show that features red-carpet events, one-on-one interviews, set visits, etc. all in the world of Hollywood. We talk to some of the biggest stars. We go to some of the biggest events. Our Super Bowl is the Oscars. As a producer, there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work, of course. So I might come in one day, and there are multiple stories that need to be written for that week's show. So we start with the interviews that correspondents get, such as myself, and we transcribe them so that we know exactly what the celebrity said and at what time code, of course, when it comes to the video. And so once we get the sound bites and everything, we put it all together, we choose the best sounds, put it together in a story that runs around a minute, a minute 15. And once the sound bites and the script is written, then we put in the B roll. So we choose, like, if there's a movie trailer or a clip from the TV show, we have to designate exactly what we want. So that we have a skeleton version of the script that we hand off to our editors, and they put it together to make it look all nice for the show. So as a correspondent, I'm given a certain event to go to. So, for instance, the red carpet premiere of "Django Unchained". So I look at all the stars that are in that movie. I look at the director. I research because I need to be prepared for who I'm going to be talking to and what I'm going to ask them. So for that, Kerry Washington, Jamie Foxx, etc., looking into who the star is, and finding out their history. Yeah, not just the current project and their current character, but their history and something fun that we can kind of talk to them about, whether it's their personal life or something in regards to behind the scenes with the movie. Then once we go out to the event, we set up, like, an hour before the stars get there. So we're all lined up on the red carpet behind either a rope or a fence, some type of barrier between the star and us, the journalists. So then the carpet starts, and the smallest stars come first, and then everybody's waiting for that big moment for the main star or the main stars to walk down the carpet. So they'll take their pictures first, and then they come down the line one at a time. The carpet is in order from biggest outlet to smallest outlet, and that's according to the publicists that are putting on the event. So on the red carpet, we've been around for about three years. So we have made our way up the carpet, fortunately, and at the top of the carpet you'll see the big shows like "Entertainment Tonight", "Access Hollywood", "E Extra", and we fall right after them. Hopefully, we'll get up there before them one day. But we are going syndicated this year. So in September we go syndicated. So we will be a nationwide show.
