Michael is a Mobile Build Engineer with retail giant Lowes. His main responsibility is to maintain the system’s servers and paths so that the software developers (who are building upwards of hundreds of codes per day) can build and implement code without obstructions. Michael recommends internships as the best way to enhance your knowledge and get a foot in the door!

>> My name is Michael Bell. I work at Lowe's Corporate. And I do mobile build engineers. So mobile build engineering is -- I work with the developers. And they need to build their code on a daily basis. Sometimes, you know, tens of hundreds of times a day. And I maintain the servers and the paths that they use in order to build that code. So, it is both projects-based and need-based. So every now and again I'll have a developer come up to me and say, "Hey, we need a one-off for a server for, you know, a web server just so we can point our app to something and say, 'Hey, I need to pull this information off of it.'". And when they pull that information off of it, they can use that in our apps. So, in doing so, like they'll have that immediate one-off build. And it'll take a couple of minutes, and they'll be happy. And then there is project-based, where I'll have to build out an entire server for them and an entire environment for them so they can build off of a specific operating system, a specific version of a server or in my case, Mac OS server and, you know, go from there. So, I have been working on Jenkins Build Integration Server so we can just have one-click builds. I've also been working on our Mac OS server and doing our one-click builds on that as well. And then master-slaves for Jenkins so we can have multiple servers building multiple things at once. So a week is, you know, 9 to 5. Great lunches and great people. It's mainly go in, make sure nothing breaks. Always checking emails 24/7. Talking to the people that I need to talk to all the time. Maintaining great relationships with security, networking, engineering and all the guys in my app structure.
