William Goldenberg, Hollywood Film Editor

>> Hi, I'm William Goldenberg and I'm a film editor. Well I fortunately get to edit Hollywood movies, feature films, and I started right after I moved to California. I went into film school here at Temple University and started out as an apprentice editor and worked my way up to be an assistant and then eventually got to edit movies on my own after about nine years, and editing means putting all the pieces of the film together to tell the best possible story. Well I mean I recently edited Argo which won [inaudible], I won an Academy Award for film editing and that film won Best Picture and so I mean in terms of I had a great experience doing it and all the stuff that went along with it, all the accolades the film got and I got to go travel. I also won the British Academy Award for that so I got to travel to London, go there, and so I was really well taken care of by the studio and so the whole entire experience was really unforgettable. I gotten to meet a lot of celebrities but Al Pacino I met and talked to a little bit and Robert De Niro I said 'hi', you know, but-- , and that movie was obviously a huge deal for somebody with as little experience and it led to job after job and you know I did the Long Kiss Goodnight and Pleasantville and the Insider, Ali, Seabiscuit, both National Treasure movies, Transformers 3, Transformers 4, what else? Zero Dark Thirty, Argo. This movie that's coming out in November called The Imitation Game. In every individual scene they shoot lots of what they call coverage, wide shots, close-ups, two shots, moving shots, and my job is to put all those pieces together to tell [inaudible] sort of engaging story whether it's an action movie, a drama, comedy, make the funniest comedy the most engaging, you know, the most exciting action movie. So I get to pick the pieces to make that story and make that-- , you know, to get the most out of it.
