What’s an ERG? & Career resources for affinity groups at Binghamton University

Equity Affinity Groups: CareerTools Resources
The Fleishman Center is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion as guiding principles. As a result, we have worked to develop webpages for affinity groups that provide tailored content and resources to meet the needs of underserved student populations.

As unique individuals, students may have characteristics and identities that intersect with several affinity groups. We recommend that you join any affinity group that you identify with so that you can network and explore helpful resources. Simply click the “Sign up” button found on any of these pages to join the affinity group!

Affinity Groups:

Affinity groups extend into workplaces through Employee Resource Groups (ERG’s). These are voluntary, employee-led groups whose aim is to foster a diverse, inclusive workplace aligned with the organizations they serve. These groups of employees join together in their workplace based on shared characteristics or life experiences. Many employers have developed ERG’s to provide support, help in personal or career development and to create a safe space.

When developing your job or internship search strategy, it’s important to keep in mind the values you want in an employer. Consider searching for organizations that have ERG’s that fit your specific needs. Asking about ERG’s during an interview or when talking with employees of an organization is a great way to learn about company culture and how it aligns with your values.
