What is your favorite thing about working at the Fleishman Career Center?
Helping students build confidence and a better understanding of themselves. I love talking about people’s experiences, motivations, and passions for the future, and connecting them to career analysis in ways they weren’t sure was possible—it’s so interesting to get to know how other people have and will live their life! It’s important to remind students that personal passions and “nonprofessional” positions are very valuable opportunities, and honestly we often forget to prioritize our lifestyle desires in job decisions too.
What does your day-to-day look like in your role?
The majority of the appointments scheduled with me are resume and cover letter creations, editing, and final reviews—but many senior peer consultants including myself have much more to offer such as interview preparation, job and internship search, networking, etc. When I can, I opt to help out at our office’s events to have some fun with my team and help promote the message that we are approachable and accessible. I also offer to table around campus to be a friendly, familiar face, and also because I just love talking about the work we do with everyone!

To really understand yourself and your desired future, and your power in creating that path for yourself. Self-reflection and goal-setting is an underrated tool when it comes to career journeys. Do not let your major or lack of major discourage you. What is your favorite thing about working at the Fleishman Career Center?
To me, the people make the place. I’m incredibly grateful to have met such wonderful people at the Fleishman Career Center. Being around so many helpful, open-minded, intelligent, and welcoming people makes Fleishman a great place to work and also a great place to receive career related guidance!
What does your day-to-day look like in your role?
As a Senior Peer Consultant, I meet with at least fifteen students a week to hold appointments. In each individualized appointment, we discuss what’s going on in their job search, major exploration, and other related topics in the realm of careers and professionalism. We meet for 20-30 minutes to work on their resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, interview preparation, etc. An appointment is very much a collaborative experience, and I always enjoy helping students fine-tune these documents and other career-related issues to get them to the point where they feel confident and more informed!
What other organizations/clubs/groups are you involved in?
I’m involved in the Education Minor Steering Committee, a group of students who create, plan, and organize the various activities and events of the education minor.
What is your best piece of career advice for other students?
Your career doesn’t need to be something that exactly resembles your major, and you also don’t need to stay in that exact path forever! What you decide when you’re 18 years old going into college may not be what you want when you’re 25! Changing your mind, developing new interests, or exploring your other preexisting interests is okay. Yes, a plan is great and can help you stay on track, but holding yourself too rigidly may do more harm than good! Everything will work out!

What does your day-to-day look like in your role?
Most days I have walk-in appointments where I help students in one-on-one appointments with their professional development needs such as resumes, job and internship search, LinkedIn, and networking. When I’m at the front desk, my job consists of greeting people, answering phone calls, and setting up appointments.
What other organizations/clubs/groups are you involved in?
I’m currently the Vice President of the Economics Club, the VP of Finance for The Women’s Network: Binghamton, and I sing in Undivided: R&B Multicultural Group
What is your best piece of career advice for other students?
You don’t have to meet 100% of the requirements to apply for that job; each experience you have has transferrable skills!
