Search Smart: 3 Strategies to navigate the job hunt!

Sometimes the hardest part about being on the job hunt is figuring out what to type into the search bar. Let’s dive into how you can leverage our top 3 tools to align your interests with potential jobs.

Explore Jobs and Salaries tool

You can use real-time job market data to make informed decisions about your future career path, explore relevant salary data, and identify the skills you need to build or market to get your next role! To learn more about your options, tap into the Explore Jobs and Salaries tool.

Sometimes similar roles are called different things depending on the industry or organization. The Explore Jobs and Salaries tool can also help you find the top 20 job titles associated with careers you’re interested in to broaden your search.

LinkedIn Alumni tool

Leveraging the Binghamton University LinkedIn Alumni tool alleviates stress when navigating the job search. Research alumni by typing in keywords that interest you, whether that be in skills, majors, companies, or jobs, to dig deeper into their professional experiences.

Pay close attention to what club or work involvement they had as a student and the positions they held in the beginning stages of their career after graduating from Binghamton. Once you’re inspired, or want to learn more, send a request to connect!

Mentor Match tool

Students from all majors, programs, and schools can use Mentor Match to help prepare them for a successful future, navigate their careers and, perhaps, explore new career paths. This online platform grants mentees exclusive access to a robust network of eager alumni mentors hoping to share their wisdom and advice about professional life after graduation.

After creating a profile, recommendations will appear based on your compatibility with mentors in career cluster interests, expertise areas, and personalized preferences.

Alumni on Mentor Match have volunteered to support you and are ready to share their experiences. Explore your interests by requesting an informational interview with a professional in a field you desire to learn more about. Informational interviews are conversations you schedule with a professional to gain insight into diverse career paths, acquire resources, and establish strong relationships.

Check out page 26 in our Career Guide to familiarize yourself with how to request, prepare for, and conduct informational interviews.
