Networking Opportunities On Campus

The Binghamton University campus is like a small city, and there are over 1,000 campus employees who perform the necessary functions to keep it operational–including a series of offices with Arts and Communication-related focuses! The professionals in these offices have careers in the Arts and Communication industry, and as such they make great on-campus connections. Reach out and ask to set up an informational interview! Here are a few offices to check out:

  1. Athletics Department

The Binghamton University Athletics Department manages all campus athletics. There is a lot that goes into this! The office employs a marketing and communications team who are responsible for marketing events to ensure good attendance, managing visual media for the team (including shooting and editing promotional videos and highlight reels, creating team headshots, and taking pictures) developing the website, designing the gear and merch, and more. Additionally, there is a group responsible for media and press releases. This is a creative environment where Arts & Communications students thrive. Students interested in sports marketing, public relations, sports broadcasting, and anything else sports-related have a lot to learn from the professionals in this office!

  1. Library Services

Binghamton University Library Services purchases, organzies, and maintains the University’s collection of books and digital media. They strive to cultivate a community where students can learn and study. The library team also markets resources to students. Library science is a great career option for students who have a love of learning and are interested in communications. Students interested in history and museums also have an opportunity to learn more about the historical pieces our library cares for.   1. Communications and Marketing

The Communications and Marketing team does a LOT! Their range of responsibilities include graphic design, editing, internal communications, media and public relations, photography, printing, social media, web design, videography, marketing campaigns, magazines, and more. Students interested in any marketing and communications professions can learn more about the industry and what different careers look like from the communications and marketing team. They also welcome student story ideas!

  1. Dean’s Office

The Office of the Dean of Students is composed of nine different programs, including: Late Nite, Residential Life, Campus Activities, Fraternity and Sorority Life, CARE Team, Interpersonal Violence Program, Parent and Family Program, Student Conduct, and the Union. Each of these programs has Arts & Communications professionals! These individuals promote the resources and events they offer; educate the student body on different issues; and manage communications and relationships with students, families, and other organizations. This requires marketing, media, design, and creative skill sets, and students interested in career opportunities utilizing these skills can find industry advice from the staff.

  1. Undergraduate Admissions

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for marketing Binghamton University to potential new students. The staff designs promotional materials, develops talking points for tour guides and campus representatives, creates an inviting website, and more to sell the school. Students interested in marketing, sales, and communications can gain industry insights and career advice from the admissions staff!

  1. Media and Public Relations

The Media and Public Relations team handles all the news surrounding Binghamton University, whether it be managing news stories about things happening on campus, collaborating on official social media and communications, conducting interviews in the live broadcast studio, or sourcing faculty as experts in outside news stories. Students interested in media, broadcasting, journalism, or public relations should connect with this office!
