Healthy Campus Peer Agent Applications
Are you looking for an on-campus internship opportunity? The Healthy Campus Peer Agent (HCPA) Internship is designed to heighten peer educators’ awareness and understanding of health issues that directly affect the lives of college students. Additionally, HCPAs sharpen their communication and leadership skills and cultivate relationships with other peer health educators and various student organizations across campus.
HCPAs educate their fellow peers on health topics including but not limited to:
- Health and wellness resources
- Mental health & Emotional Wellness
- STI and HIV/AIDS prevention
- Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs
- Cold/flu prevention and immunization
- Sleep awareness
- Nutrition
- Physical Wellness
Internship Objectives
- Raise awareness concerning health issues relevant to college students and to explore feelings, beliefs and attitudes regarding the issues
- Provide a medium whereby students can learn the difference between misperceptions and actual student norms and behaviors
- Provide opportunities for interns to network with faculty, staff and organizations both on and off campus
- Refine and hone public speaking and effective communication skills by conducting outreach and presentations, along with tabling events
- Develop digital health messaging skills through various online platforms
- Learn to effectively work in group settings and evaluate participatory behaviors of each member
- Foster the growth of students as leaders on campus
- Learn professional etiquette
- Promote the HCPA internship program

Mental Health Advocacy Training
Healthy Campus Peer Agents in a half-day training (lunch provided) on the Mental Health issues affecting college students across the country and how to reduce stigma related to accessing mental health services. We will be covering the topics such as suicide prevention, anxiety, depression, stigma, stress management and self-care.

Health and Wellness Fair
Check out the annual health and wellness fair, showcasing the resources available to the University community to maintain and improve health and wellness. The event will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, in the University Union, with programming in the Mandela Room, Old Union Hall and Tillman Lobby. Not only is this a great chance to learn about resources available on campus, but there will also be networking opportunities and campus involvement opportunities that can help prepare you for a career in the health sciences!
