16 Strong Project Web and Design Intern
Who We Are: The 16 Strong Project is a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of the nation’s youth by empowering resilience to adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) through student-led initiatives, educational workshops, school partnerships, and community outreach. 16 Strong strives to continue conversations that help young people recognize and navigate the challenges they might be facing as a result of ACEs. Adverse childhood experiences are the number one unaddressed public issue facing our nation’s youth. We believe that with strong support systems, healthy coping mechanisms, and positive mindset, the negative impacts of ACEs can be mitigated.
Position Description: The 16 Strong Project currently seeks an intern to assist with the development, redesign and layout of our Squarespace website. You will be responsible for implementing new features in our existing Squarespace website as well as developing new ones from scratch. The Web Development internship offers practical work experience and an introduction to creating and improving a Squarespace website. This internship will provide challenging opportunities, real world projects, and regular interaction with staff and volunteers. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the web and/or app development field with a national nonprofit.
Responsibilities Include:
- Develop webpage and website creations on the 16 Strong Project website.
- Write web-designed, testable, efficient code by using web development best practices and functionality.
- Create and revamp website layouts and user interfaces with HTML and CSS.
- Update and edit website content, posts and pages.
- Provide technical support related to website.
- Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs.
- Assist in maintaining, expanding and scaling our site.
- Integrate data from various back-end services into Squarespace website.
- Create and maintain software documentation to ensure clear and comprehensive understanding of projects.
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of Squarespace and its features for effective implementation
- Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, for code management and collaboration
- Knowledge of test-driven and agile development practices to ensure code quality and efficient project delivery
- Highly-motivated team player
- Experience with HTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript
- Experience in website design
- Familiarity with Squarespace and related Squarespace products
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail oriented
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Position Duration, Commitment: This position runs from July 2023 to August 2024 (please note-the start and end dates are flexible). The intern will work approximately 8-10 hours weekly. Hours are flexible, and this is a remote position that can be done from wherever you are currently living.
