Hydraulic Engineering Intern
Plains is currently looking for a Hydraulic Engineering Intern to join our team for a 13-week position beginning May 20, 2024. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with proven analytical and communication skills with the ability to collaborate with multiple departments. Successful candidates will also participate in several meaningful projects that are designed to both impact the bottom line of Plains business success.
The Hydraulic Engineer Intern supports the efforts of the US Hydraulics group through the creation and maintenance of hydraulic simulation models of the Plains assets. The Engineering Intern also supports ongoing efforts inside the Simulations group with respect to document creation, tool building, and data gathering. The Engineering Intern will learn the basics of Pipeline Hydraulics and simulation on the job as well as early career professional development.
Responsibilities:
Simulation
- Develops and updates simulation models using Synergi Pipeline Simulator
- Validates and ensures the proper storage of the pipeline models
- May run simulation models to provide results to team members
Transient Analysis
- Writes and updates surge studies based on the results of the transient analysis
Hydraulic Support
- Data gathering in support of hydraulic group projects
- This includes physical pipeline system data, fluid information, scope, and operating data.
- Helps to build and maintain a model library of existing pipeline system models
- Helps to maintain the Transient Analysis program
Qualifications:
- Interns must be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Engineering (Chemical, Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering candidates preferred);
- Should have completed Sophomore level coursework at a minimum.
- Flexible, able to adapt to a change in work priorities and manage multiple projects with short turnaround time.
- Previous internships are considered an asset;
- Ideal candidates are analytical, creative, connected, and entrepreneurial;
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and SharePoint;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Proven flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business conditions;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating strong analytical and organizational skills;
- Interns must be able and willing to relocate themselves to Houston for the entire duration of the work term;
- Interns must be able to commit to a 12-week internship starting May 20, 2024 to be considered for the program;
- The successful candidate must comply with the Company’s Drug & Alcohol Policy including pre-employment testing; and
- The successful candidate must provide satisfactory references and complete a Criminal Background Check.
