Job Summary
The Microsoft Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Microsoft 365 solutions across the University to optimize productivity and efficiency. This position will work with other solution vendors as well as Regent’s Systems, Network and Security Engineers to deploy and configure both cloud and on-premises policies, directory organizational units, and security controls while acting as the subject matter expert for Microsoft tools and applications. Essential functions will include:
- Configure, deploy, and manage Microsoft 365 applications and features to meet business requirements. Oversee the maintenance of 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, etc.).
- Plan and execute migrations from on-premises Active Directory to Microsoft 365 services, applications, identity, and device management solutions.
- Maintain Microsoft 365 tenant configuration settings, such as domain name settings, federation, and external access.
- Work with the Security team to configure and manage Microsoft 365 security and compliance features, such as conditional access, data loss prevention (DLP), and retention policies.
- Coordinate with IT teams and business stakeholders to identify and prioritize Identity and Access Management (IAM) needs and requirements.
- Collaborate with IT teams to implement solutions that meet regulatory and compliance requirements (e.g., GLBA, NIST SP 800-171).
- Provide technical support and training for other IT professionals on M365 configuration and management best practices while acting as Tier 3 support to troubleshoot any escalated issues related to Microsoft 365 service and resolve technical problems for end-users.
- Monitor Microsoft 365 service performance, availability, and configuration standards to ensure service levels are met.
- Work with the Security team to deploy Intune policies and profiles for mobile devices and applications. Implement security controls and compliance policies on devices such as device encryption and remote wipe.
- Manage and recommend Microsoft License purchases sufficient to support the needs of the University by controlling costs and taking advantage of educational benefits as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related experience required
- MS365 certifications (e.g., MS365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert) or
similar Microsoft certifications required - Proven experience as an MS365 Engineer or similar role
- Expert experience in PowerShell scripting for MS365 administration
- A clear understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, Sites, and Services and how these services interoperate with Azure AD/Entra
