Jessica Lane-Rwabukwisi

Career Consultant

Jessica has been serving Binghamton University students since June 2018 as a career consultant and has completed over 2,000 appointments. She is very intentional about helping students reflect on who they are and how their interests connect to their career path. In addition to her role as a career consultant, she also co-leads the Diversity and Social Justice Working Group at the Fleishman Career Center and has been instrumental in building a strategy to integrate career education into the curriculum in order to reach all students with career knowledge and opportunities. She is very passionate about her work and enjoys overcoming challenges and building new initiatives through collaboration and creativity.

Jessica earned a double major in French and International Studies from the University at Buffalo in 2006, and a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development and Conflict Transformation from the School for International Training (SIT) Graduate Institute. Prior to joining the Fleishman Career Center, Jessica worked in national and international NGOs and lived and worked abroad in Belgium, France, India and Rwanda. Outside of work, she is a busy mom of 2 boys and enjoys exploring the outdoors and spending time with family.

What is your favorite thing about working at Binghamton University?
My favorite part is that it is a place where students, staff and faculty can continue to grow, learn and stretch as a community and with intention.

What was your first internship or job?
AmeriCorps VISTA with the US Committee for Refugee and Immigrants

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about building authentic relationships and understanding across cultures and differences.

What is your best piece of career or professional advice?
There is always an element of exploration throughout the career development process. Even if you secure your “dream job” you may find that it’s not all you expected it to be. New information helps you make informed decisions for the next step. Don’t be afraid to pivot to something new!
