How to Talk to Employers at the Virtual Job & Internship Fair

We hope you’ll be joining us for our Virtual Job & Internship Fair!

If you have not already signed up for your sessions, there’s still plenty of time!
Sign up for your 1:1 meetings or group sessions with employers and create your individual fair schedule!

What To Do During Your 1:1 Sessions with Employers
If you’ve signed up for 1:1 sessions, you will have 10 minutes to speak with a recruiter. This is NOT an interview — these sessions are a chance for you to learn more about an organization and available positions and could lead to a future interview with the organization. This is your virtual way of walking up to a table at an in-person job and internship fair to chat with a recruiter.

Here’s what to do during you 1:1 session:

  1. Introduce yourself and give your 30-second commercial, which should briefly cover what you are studying, class year, career interests and goals. Find tips in our Career Guide.
  2. Talk about why you are interested in this specific organization, or a particular position. This means you’ll need to do a little bit of research and get some background info!
  3. Ask questions about everything from the skills they value to their organization’s culture, or if there is a specific job you are interested in, ask questions about that role. Here are some examples of questions.
  4. Wrap it up! You only have 10 minutes with the recruiter and cannot go beyond your allotted time. Be sure to thank the recruiter for their time and ask for their contact information. You’ll want to send a thank you note to your new connections after the fair!

What to Do During Your Group Sessions with Employers
Group sessions with employers will be much different than the 1:1 sessions, as these will be led by the recruiters. You will have an opportunity to make an impression by asking thoughtful questions. Consider asking about anything from the skills they value to their organization’s culture, what initiatives around diversity and inclusion are available to employees. Here are more examples of questions. Asking specific and well-thought out questions is a great way to stand out to recruiters during your group sessions.
