2024-2025 Classroom to Career Fellow

Course: SOC 100, Race, Class, and Gender

Dr. Juliana Góes collaborated with the Fleishman Career Center to enhance SOC 100: Race, Class, and Gender, a course that examines the historical foundations of social divisions and their ties to capitalism, colonialism, slavery, and patriarchy. In the latter portion of the course, students explored how to apply their understanding of systemic inequality to any career path they pursue. This segment featured an eight-part panel series, How to Put Sociology to Work, showcasing professionals from diverse fields—including fields from diplomacy to gender affirming hair care—who shared how they integrate sociological insight into their work. Students engaged in career exploration using structured tools and were asked to identify a career of interest. Students then reflected on how the career aligns with their values, interests, personality, and skills, and considered how they could serve as agents of change in their chosen field based on the course’s themes. There were 100 students in the course.
