International Student Career Success Week

September 5–8 | Programs at noon daily

Join the Fleishman Career Center, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), Watson Career and Alumni Connections and SOM Career Services for a week filled with career-related programs specifically for international students. A new session will be offered every day that tackles a different element of the U.S. job search process. All international students are welcome and encouraged to attend.

How to Get your CPT ASAP

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is an off-campus employment authorization for international students in F-1 status. It allows students to complete an internship or obtain other temporary employment for experience that is directly related to their program of study. Come to this workshop to learn the regulations governing CPT and when it can be used. You will also learn what you need to do to submit a successful application! This workshop will be led by an advisor from International Student and Scholar Services.

Creating U.S. Style Resumes and Cover Letters

Wednesday, Sept. 6  | Noon  | UU-133A and live on Zoom | Register

Learn the necessary components of a strong U.S.-style resume and cover letter for students in all majors, including finance, technical and engineering-related career paths. Topics to be covered include formatting, the concept of using action verbs to highlight skills, tailoring your documents to fit a specific role, and how to make your documents stand out in the U.S. job search. This will be a joint presentation in partnership with a professional staff member from the Watson Career and Alumni Connections office.

Building Connections and Making the Most of the Job & Internship Fair

This session will review the skills you must demonstrate to employers at events such as the Job and Internship Fair as well as the expectations of those employers. This workshop will help you build your confidence, create a positive first impression, bond with recruiters and employers, and most of all, make them remember you. We will review and practice strategies that can be used to enhance your networking at the Job and Internship Fair, including the 30-second commercial. This workshop will be led by a professional staff member from the SOM Career Services.

Professional Etiquette and Interviewing 101: Answering the Most Common Questions

Friday, Sept. 8  | Noon  | UU-133A and live on Zoom | Register

A professional staff from the Watson Career and Alumni Connections Office will go over the Do’s and Don’ts of networking and job negotiation etiquette. Fleishman staff will follow the presentation by reviewing answers to the five most commonly asked questions during interviews as well as providing tips for answering behavioral questions. Then, you will have the chance to practice your responses with our team and fellow participants. This will be a joint presentation in partnership with a professional staff member from the Watson Career and Alumni Connections office.
