Our Ability: Access to Opportunity
Our Ability is an innovative, disability-owned and operated social enterprise dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through employment, economic independence, and advanced technology. Founded by disability advocate John Robinson, the organization leverages specialized AI-powered job matching software (Jobs Ability), professional webinars, and digital profile systems to bridge the gap between corporate hiring needs and the unique skill sets of the disability community. Our Ability focuses heavily on skills-based recruitment, helping companies transition beyond entry-level placement and embrace candidates with disabilities across all professional sectors.
Who should use this resource:
Students, recent graduates, and alumni with visible or non-visible disabilities (including physical disabilities, neurodivergence, learning differences, and mental health conditions) who are looking to navigate the job market. It is an excellent tool for those seeking specialized career pathways, mentorship, entrepreneurship guidance, or tech-driven job matching.
Why it’s helpful:
Traditional applicant tracking systems (ATS) often feature structural, language-based barriers that inadvertently filter out neurodivergent or disabled candidates. Our Ability resolves this issue using a proprietary, generative AI system developed in collaboration with Microsoft. When you build a profile on their platform, the system translates your lived experiences, academic background, and personal strengths into the specific competency-based language that corporate recruiters look for. This provides a direct pipeline to national and regional employers who are actively looking to diversify their teams while ensuring your skills are evaluated fairly.
